BMW F900GS Enduro Ride Review: Built to Leave the Tar Behind

We ride the BMW F900GS with Enduro suspension in real-world conditions. Lighter, sharper, and more dirt-focused than ever before.

BMW has always known how to build a capable adventure bike.

But with the new BMW F900GS, it feels like they’ve shifted the focus back toward what many riders actually want: less weight, more capability, and a bike that feels properly at home in the dirt.

Especially in Enduro spec.

On paper, the numbers look good. More power, revised ergonomics, improved suspension, and a noticeable weight drop over the previous generation.

But spec sheets don’t tell you how a bike feels once the road turns rough.

So we took the BMW F900GS with Enduro suspension out for a proper Adventure Co-style ride review to see if this middleweight ADV machine really lives up to the hype.

Lighter, sharper, and far more dirt-focused—the F900GS is built for proper adventure riding.

First Impressions

The first thing you notice about the F900GS is how much more focused it feels.

Compared to the outgoing F850GS, this bike feels slimmer, lighter, and far more eager to get dirty.

And honestly?
That’s a very good thing.

The Enduro suspension setup immediately changes the personality of the bike. You sit taller, the bike feels more purposeful, and there’s a clear shift toward genuine off-road performance rather than just adventure-bike styling.

BMW has done a solid job making this bike feel premium without making it intimidating.

The BMW F900GS with Enduro suspension feels right at home once the gravel starts getting rough.

Engine and Performance

The F900GS is powered by an 895cc parallel twin, producing around 77 kW and 93Nm of torque.

And yes – you feel it.

The motor pulls hard through the mid-range, making overtakes effortless and gravel climbs surprisingly easy. But what stands out most is how usable the power delivery feels.

It’s fast without being aggressive.

On gravel roads, the throttle response feels predictable and controllable, while on tar the bike has more than enough punch for long-distance touring and spirited riding.

It’s one of those engines that makes riding feel easy.

Big miles, rough roads, and zero hesitation. The F900GS was made to explore beyond the tar.

Enduro Suspension: The Real Story

This is where the bike starts making a lot of sense.

The Enduro suspension package transforms the F900GS into something far more dirt-capable than previous mid-sized GS models.

You get:

  • Increased suspension travel
  • Improved ground clearance
  • Better off-road damping performance
  • More confidence in rough terrain

The bike absorbs corrugations, rocky sections, and loose terrain surprisingly well for a middleweight adventure machine.

And importantly – it stays composed when speeds pick up.

That planted feeling gives you confidence to ride harder, especially on fast gravel roads where some bikes start to feel nervous.

Touring & Comfort

Despite the stronger off-road focus, the F900GS still handles touring duties comfortably.

You get:

  • Comfortable upright ergonomics
  • Good wind protection
  • Strong highway stability
  • Enough power for loaded touring

This balance is where the bike really shines.

It can handle a long-distance trip comfortably, then immediately transition into gravel passes and rough backroads without feeling out of place.

That versatility is what makes adventure bikes so appealing in the first place.

A middleweight adventure bike that delivers serious confidence when the terrain gets technical.

Features & Technology

As expected from BMW, the F900GS comes packed with tech.

Depending on spec, features include:

  • TFT display with connectivity
  • Riding modes
  • Cornering ABS
  • Traction control
  • Quickshifter
  • Heated grips
  • Cruise control

The electronics package feels refined and intuitive, without becoming distracting.

BMW’s rider aids continue to be some of the smoothest in the business.

Premium comfort meets real off-road capability in BMW’s most focused middleweight GS yet.

The Downsides

No bike is perfect.

A few things worth considering:

  • Premium pricing compared to competitors
  • Taller seat height may intimidate shorter riders
  • Still heavier than smaller dual-sport style bikes
  • Optional extras can add up quickly

But honestly, none of these feel unexpected in this category.

Who Is This Bike For?

The BMW F900GS with Enduro suspension makes the most sense if you:

  • Want a serious middleweight adventure bike
  • Spend a lot of time on gravel or rough roads
  • Want touring comfort and off-road capability
  • Like premium fit, finish, and electronics
  • Want something more dirt-focused than the previous GS generation

It sits in a really interesting space between touring ADV bikes and proper off-road machines.
